Corné was recently interviewed by Cole Heka, the Founder and Interim Director of theSystem*
This exciting online magazine and community was founded upon the philosophy of creating an eco-system of culture that re-imagines how the masses discover and interact with the cultural industries.
Their platform features inspiring activities and conversations with today’s artists, philosophers, makers, and risk-takers. Focusing on beginnings, creativity, and risk. the-System * provides a memorable look into the lives of its subjects via conversations, features, film-based projects and events.
Their in-depth conversation runs from quantum mechanics to the perception of art as elitist with titbits like: "People are not taught art at school, art is a language and it should be treated as such. Essentially it's everywhere – the STOP sign on a street is an artwork, most people can 'read' it – why are they not taught to 'read' paintings?"

One of the pitfalls of the growing Contemporary Art market in South Africa, is that the attention and media coverage of art and artists also raises the awareness of the fiscal value of art under less ethical and often criminal members of the public. There has been an enormous increase of Art theft in South Africa over the last couple years. Stolen works of art are often sold on the secondary art market or offered to collectors on social media platforms. Corné has also fallen victim to this in recent months with several works disappearing or outright being stolen from galleries.
In order to protect collectors and raise awareness around stolen or missing works, we are launching a registry on this website in the coming weeks. This registry is aimed at undermining the sale of stolen works on the secondary market and will serve as a way for collectors to verify the Provenance of works before investing in them.
We also hope that auctioneers, insurers and galleries will find this registry useful as part of a concerted effort to curb the theft and sale of stolen works of art in the local market.

Over the last few years there have been a huge increase in requests for interviews, completing questionnaires and providing information from GCSE, A-level and Matric students working on art projects regarding specific art works, inspiration, techniques and making a living from your art. Although he welcomes this interest and would like to respond to each of them in person, limitations in how much time he can allocate to correspondence have made it impossible to respond to these requests effectively and timeously.
It is with this in mind that we have started the development of a student portal on this website to assist with accessing information on Corné Eksteen and his work in a fast, easy and reliable way. Over the next few months, the most asked student questions will be answered and compiled into an easy-to-use section on this website, allowing students to effectively plan and work on projects related to Corné Eksteen.
The student portal is scheduled to launch early in 2025.
Final launch dates and information will be posted on this news feed.

StateoftheART is delighted to present The Shipping Forecast, a gallery curated group exhibition of paintings. Loosely inspired by the BBC Radio’s weather reports and forecasts, the participating artists narrate their own forecast of "imminent", "soon" and "later" events: the artworks in this show serve as a powerful visual commentary on each artist's connection with the natural world.
Viewed collectively, the eye journeys through these various landscapes. Recognisable features carry across from painting to painting, a cloud-filled sky here and a glimpse of dense foliage there, but each contains a world unto itself.
This exhibition presents an exciting opportunity for art lovers to experience and enjoy the work of these exceptional artists, including Catherine Ocholla, Lisette Forsyth, Tanja Truscott, Karen Wykerd,
Laurel Holmes, Alexander Knox, Corné Eksteen, James De Villiers, Sylvester Mqeku and Chris Denovan.
